I met Linda and Marv for a photoshoot in Boboli Gardens to celebrate their anniversary. We began the shoot by meeting in the center of Piazza Santo Spirito in Florence on a misty September morning. I always feel bad when the weather isn’t perfectly sunny on a day of a shoot because I believe most people expect to see nothing but sun when they visit Italy. However, the cloudy skies and the fog sweeping over the center of Florence made for some beautiful photographs.
We took a moment to get to know each other and then started the shoot in the busy square. We then walked through the Oltrarno neighborhood as it was waking up towards Boboli. Visiting Boboli Gardens always feels like a new and magical experience for me, no matter how many times I have been there. The old walls and aging statues seem to grow and change along with the vast array of flowers, trees and greenery. It seems that no matter which way you turn, you can always find the perfect backdrop for inspiring and romantic portraits.
Linda and Marv were a great couple to photograph, they were happy to follow my direction and try some fun poses. They even danced in the middle of the garden on command. I strongly believe the best photos come from people in movement; distracted just enough for me to capture something genuine. You could tell that Linda did her homework, she brought some great ideas for poses to the shoot. She wasn’t afraid to try anything, even if that meant trekking around uphill, in the dirt, in her heels. By the end of the shoot, we all felt like we got our workout for the day. This couple truly earned all of the gelato and pasta they could eat!
Happy Anniversary Linda and Marv, I hope the years to come will be just as fun and romantic as this photoshoot was.
