For my sister and her husband, an anniversary photoshoot in the woods was perfect in so many ways. This past summer while visiting my family in Pennsylvania I had the opportunity to do a family photoshoot of my beautiful sister, Emma, her husband, Geno and their dog, Gus. When we were discussing a location, the only place that came to mind for me was the woods. Emma, Geno and Gus love to take hikes and it only seemed appropriate to take the photos in a place they hiked often. These photos would then undoubtedly hold a deeper meaning than just a pretty location. It didn’t hurt that the place they like to hike is incredibly beautiful.
Truthfully I’ve been wanting to do a photoshoot in the woods for a while now so it was the perfect opportunity. I love the way the light trickles in through the trees and the way the grass feels soft under the canopy. Couple portrait sessions are a passion of mine. I just love the challenge of guiding my subjects to react in natural and spontaneous ways. I like to use a mix of prompts and poses in the right spot to guide my modals into creating the perfect scene to photograph. It’s incredibly entertaining finding new ways to use my photography to tell the story of each unique couple. In this case, having my sister’s family dog with them during the shoot made the story easier to tell. My goal with every shoot is to capture the perfect balance of timeless beauty and candid emotion. In this case, the beautiful woods and the elegant clothes Emma and Geno chose to wear make these photographs feel timeless.
